autumn-imara:

This is a video which reveals the illogic of some Black people who are shunning and being prejudiced towards light-skinned, biracial, and mixed black people. No one has the right to tell a fellow Black person that they aren’t “black enough” just because of their skin color. The only 100 percent Black African people are the ones who were never colonized and had no contact with Europeans.

I watched that video you sent me. My issue isn’t being looked at or “seen as” black but having the black experience. I am not black enough that I face the same issues an AMERICAN black person does. He doesn’t talk about the different life experiences we face compared to American blacks who receive a lot of I’ll treatment.

For example me, who identifies as MIXED and happy with it, my experience compared to say someone like you is and will be different. I can walk through a store and no one will bat in eye in most places. I have literally stole thousands of dollars worth of stuff (not to brag, just an example) being young and stupid. Never once been caught!

America is racist. Light skinned and mixed people have an advantage all going back centuries. Do you think we’d ever have our first “black” president if he was 100% black or darker skinned? No I don’t think so.

I don’t know what it means to be black because my hair is more European, I get sun burns, I didn’t grow up poor, and I’ve never had a problem with the police. That’s just a small part of it. In my 34 years, most of it was privileged in comparison to the average black American.
